A poet and writer Jackie Kay was born inside Edinburgh in 1961 to the Scottish mother & a Nigerian father. She was adopted by the whiten few & brought higher within Bishopbriggs, a suburbia of Glasgow. At the start harbouring ambitions to exist as an actress, she decided to concentrate in writing when Alasdair Gray read her poetry and told her that writing was what she should exist as doing. She exposed English at Stirling University and her first book of poetry (A Adoption Papers) was published inside 1991, winning a Saltire Society Scottish Number one Book Award. More awards include the Somerset Maugham (for More Lovers) & a Guardian Fiction Prize (for Trumpet), & she writes extensively for tikes, stage & screen. She has the boy, Matthew, & inhabits inside Manchester with the poet Carol Ann Duffy.
